RIPPLES OF HAPPINESS
2021, 12” x 12”, 40 hours
Graphite and pastel
For a long time, I have been asked to diverge my work from a mere black and white composition to colorful pieces. But this sketch presents how invoking feelings does not require vibrance but rather depth. I chose this reference considering the boy's radiant eyes. It mirrors contentment and unadulterated joy. His drenched state, with water dripping from his forehead shows a carefree immersion in the moment, embracing life's simple pleasures without reservation. The boy’s hair and cascading water trails have been a challenge.
The title of the sketch speaks to the profound impact of joy—how moments of pure delight create ripples, not just on the surface, but within the depths of our existence. The sketch invites contemplation on the transient nature of happiness, the beauty found in simplicity, and the significance of cherishing moments of unbridled joy in our lives.
